Images of Sydney
Having been a professional photographer for most of my working life I have collected a vast amount of images of Sydney, NSW, Australia. These images are from the air and from the ground.
Aerial photography forms the backbone of my business and most of those clients also need some still images of local areas taken from the ground. These are the fun shots to do and I always set a challenge to listen to the customers brief first then decide if I have the images or I shoot new images.
I think its important to know Sydney intimately if you are going to produce the best images of Sydney. In 1986 I was commissioned to be the head photographer for a book on Australia for Australia’s Bicentenary. Although a long time ago the job was the most influential in my career. The owner of the business/publication was a wealthy South American with years of knowledge. He also had the best photographic equipment money could buy. He taught me the value of ‘seeing and recording’. I still have most of those images dating back to 1986.
Nowadays the cafe culture has boomed. People have more refined social tastes and requirements. Sales imagery should match those requirements.
If you are in the market for current images of Sydney please give me a call to discuss your requirements.
And don’t forget about our extensive (100,000 + images) aerial image library:
Blue Mountains Aerial Photo – Sydney Aerial Photography
Recently I flew an assignment to the Blue Mountains just west of Sydney, NSW. You can see from this shot why the area is called ‘The Blue Mountains’. No tricks in photoshop on this pic. This is the natural hue of the picture. The original file is a large 34MP RAW file and would make an amazing enlargement somewhere. That dirt track leads to a spectacular lookout. Be careful, drive slowly and break early.
Flying in the Blue Mountains is a tricky affair and only for the experienced weather forecasters. We jagged a good pattern even though the flight had been cancelled earlier in the day due to pending weather changes. I had a feeling it would stay clear for us and it did. Large towering cumulus clouds danced around us but stayed away from casting a shadow on the target. Although there was some fog haze I was able to remove it in Photoshop … a trick I have perfected over the years. Removing haze from aerial photos is an invaluable trick for the aerial photographer.
Aerial Photography Sydney Domain
I remember as a child we’d go to the Domain in Sydney and litem to the ‘opinions’ of those standing on old soap boxes. I was always intrigued by their commitment to the message of the day. The people shouted out their message and the public gave it back to them. Game on. And if you wanted to know how a war starts anywhere in the world you just had to go to the old school Domain. Arguments everywhere. Entertainment to most.
These days the only time I get to the Domain is to visit the Art Gallery of NSW or to be overhead in the helicopter doing Aerial Photography of Sydney.
Recently I was overhead photographing and grabbed this clear shot. Now its in my library of over 100,000 rentable images of Sydney. No sign of crowds gathered around speakers these days. Just nice green space, gardens and great Architecture.
Safe and Fresh
Of the many ocean swimming pools sydney in and about Sydney Mahon Pool at North Maroubra seems to be the least known by Sydney-siders. Its tucked away in the rocks and can not be seen by most. From the air it shines as a little oasis for the keen ocean swimmers that delight in the pool’s refreshingly clean water.
All of Sydney’s ocean swimming pools have a very interesting history. Most are built into or an an existing rock platform and have taken years to stabilise because of the force of the ocean waves.
And that’s what Sydney Aerial Photography is for … to show that special aspect that can’t be normally seen … whether its real estate, property or simple ocean swimming pools.

aerial photography golf courses – love it
One passion: aerial photography golf courses. Flying back to base in the helicopter from a dawn ‘mission’ the site of the sun rising over the Lakes Golf Club in Sydney was stunning … certainly fit for an aerial photograph. I have many effect shots like this in my Aerial Photographic Library of Sydney if anyone is ever looking for that perfect effect picture. Just call me with your request 0418670437
There are many golf courses in Sydney and the most picturesque are the ones with a lot of water. Picturesque as far as a Sydney aerial photographer is concerned. Ugly as far as a golfer is concerned. Ever wondered how many golf balls are in those water hazards? Think I might design a submerged golf ball seeking camera.
Over the years I have photographed numerous properties for sale … many of them over and over again.
Altona in Point Piper is no exception. Altona sells for record Sydney amount.
This time Altona sells for record Sydney amount. In fact an aerial photo I took of Altona way way back (nearly 30 yrs!) broke all the rules. We flew so low that we almost could get out of the chopper … on water!
This time it has taken a while on market but Altona has commanded a current record of $50 + million. So while the claim is out – Altona sells for record Sydney amount -I’m sure it won’t be long before that record is toppled.
The above image is one of a batch I did for the recent sale. A few extra days on market but it eventually sold very well.
Its a mystery to me how the weather works … not really … its my business to know and forecast it. That’s why I have a library, actually a few libraries of aerial photography online … for these bad weather conditions. Basically the aerial image library service offered lets you make your advertising deadlines.
